Different questions.
A shared focus.

Illustration, education, and research are different ways I explor the same question: how can visual communication help people understand, learn, and engage?

01 | Illustration

Making complex ideas visable.

MedDraw Studio is the medical illustration practice of Mandy Root-Thompson. I create visual solutions for medicine, science, education, and research.

02 | education

Teaching visual communicators.

I teach visual communication through audience-centered problem solving, thoughtful critique, and learning through making—helping students develop not only technical skills, but new ways of seeing and thinking.

03 | Research

Exploring how visual communication helps people understand, learn, and engage.

My research examines how visual communication supports learning and engagement—from public health comics and patient education to the knowledge medical illustrators need to design effective educational visuals.

My Philosophy

See Differently.

I believe good visual communication begins with looking closely—at the subject, the audience, and the problem we are trying to solve.

Whether I’m illustrating, teaching, or researching, my work is grounded in curiosity, clarity, and the idea that there is rarely only one way to see something. Drawing can reveal what is difficult to see. Teaching can help someone discover a new way of thinking. Research can challenge what we assume we already know.

One line. Many ways of seeing.
